Want to substitute oat milk in your favorite Starbucks drink but not sure whether or not it's an option? You're in luck.

Since March 2021, Starbucks has partnered with Oatly to offer oat milk at all of its franchises.

Along with oat milk, Starbucks also offers soy, almond, and coconut milk as an alternative to their traditional dairy products.

Here's everything you need to know about Starbucks' oat milk including how to find out if your local shop has it and how to order it.

Does Starbucks Have Oat Milk?

After a sudden surge of interest in oat milk throughout the United States, Starbucks partnered with Oatly in March 2021 to bring the popular non-dairy milk to its customers worldwide.

Today, if you walk into a Starbucks in Shanghai or Buenos Aires, you can order your favorite milk-based coffee beverage made with healthy, vegan-friendly, and lactose-free oat milk.

What Kind of Oat Milk Does Starbucks Use?

Starbucks uses Oatly Oat Milk in all of its oat milk beverages.

Oatly, a company based out of Sweden, produces a high-quality non-GMO, vegan-friendly oat milk using just two simple ingredients—oats and water.

Their oat milk is then fortified with additional vitamins and minerals to increase health benefits.

How Many Calories Are in Starbucks Oat Milk?

One serving of Oatly Oat Milk contains around 120 calories. This is roughly the same calories as the 2% reduced-fat milk that Starbucks uses.

Therefore, you won’t see much difference in your caloric intake by switching to non-dairy milk.

You will, however, reduce your intake of saturated fats and sugars, making Oatly the healthier option.

How to Order Oat Milk at Starbucks

Ordering an oat milk latte or cappuccino is incredibly easy.

After telling the barista which style of coffee you want, explain that you want oat milk instead of dairy.

The barista will then modify your order and use oat milk.

If you order a cappuccino or another foamy beverage, understand that oat milk will not foam as much as standard dairy.

The proteins and fats in dairy help create the foam you associate with cappuccinos, but since oat milk lacks these nutrients, it won’t make the same thick foam you’re after.

Additionally, if you’re ordering your beverage through the Starbucks mobile app, you’ll have to indicate that you want oat milk in your order specifically.

How to order oat milk on the Starbucks mobile app:

  1. Open the Starbucks app on your phone and sign in.
  2. Find the “Order” tab and select it.
  3. Find your nearest Starbucks location and select it.
  4. Scroll down the menu and select the drink you want.
  5. Under “Milk Options,” select “Oat Milk.”
  6. Select “Add to order” and then “Checkout.”
  7. Input your payment information and complete the order.

How Much is Oat Milk at Starbucks?

Many lactose-intolerant and vegan Starbucks lovers have been disappointed that oat milk costs more than standard dairy milk.

You’ll have to spend an extra $0.70 for oat milk at most locations, and some regional branches may even charge as much as $0.80.

This comes in light of a false report that Starbucks would drop the surcharge.

In 2021, a spokesperson for the Starbucks company said that they would continue to charge the extra $0.70 for non-dairy milk until the current supply chain improves, thus lowering the cost of plant-based milk.

This additional charge also carries over onto the mobile app.
